We set up the goals. Now let us look at the schedule. I am going to describe an individual situation, and it is up to you to apply it to yourself, agreed? Examine your schedule and the schedule of your child. When are you both free and when can you both sit down and study in a peaceful manner? It is necessary to have this time when nobody disturbs and bothers you. Do you have this time during the week? Mark it on your calendar. I would like you to study 2- 3 times a week, about 35-40 minutes every time. It is not necessary to make the lessons long. First, you do not have time, and second, your child gets tired. Your language lessons must be on a regular basis in accordance with the schedule. Remember to have short and frequent lessons
From now on when you discuss your daily or weekly plans, make sure to say: “Сегодня в 5 часов у нас урок русского языка. – We have a lesson on Russian today at 5 p.m.”
Set up a special place in the room where you are going to study. Hang a map or a Russian-style painting on the wall. Let that place stand out from other places. When you do not have a lesson and your child wants to leave through the book in Russian, let him/her be in that place. Or let him/her listen to a children’s song sitting on the chair in that place. Make it into a ritual.
What to do if a child is tired or excited but you have a lesson of Russian according to the schedule? If you ask me, I would not postpone the lesson. Perhaps I could change the way the lesson is taught and not conduct it very intensively. I could change the activities of the lesson; for example, look at the map of Russia and find the seas, oceans, mountains, cities, etc. Or find online the information about well-known people, famous museums, historical events, etc. Let the lesson stand but let it be softer and gentler. Tell the child about your childhood, about your relatives and friends with whom you speak Russian.
We would like to keep the child’s attitude positive. Yes, it is more important to have a positive attitude than a grammar rule. If there is no positive attitude, then a grammar rule is not going to be learned. Remember that.
